It has been almost a year since enrolling in our local mentoring program and going in I didn’t know what to expect. The organizers went through an extensive analysis to determine what each mentee and mentor was looking for and who would work best together based on needs.
The mentor that I have been paired with has acted as a great sounding board for ideas and problems. He has a great background in sales and runs a local business that has allowed him to be involved in the local community. Every meeting with my mentor I find valuable and our monthly meetings with the whole group are great for conversation with like minded individuals.
One observation that has struck me many times is that everyone (mentor and mentees) seem to be getting something out of every meeting. The more people contribute the harder it is to end meetings on time because there is always more to talk about. If you have a problem in your business, no matter how big or small, you can bet that someone else has experienced or is experiencing the same problem and these meetings seem to bring everyone together. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
If you have a local mentoring program, why not find out more about it and start participating now. We all need continuous education and learning and this has been a great way for me to get out and meet new people in my community.
